Course Summary

The aim of the Winter Mountaineering course is for you to learn the skills necessary to look after yourself whilst out on the UKs winter mountains.

The Winter Mountaineering course should make you confident to venture out in a winter mountainous environment throughout the British Isles on your own.

Course Content

On the Winter Mountaineering course we look at

  • moving on mixed terrain in crampons
  • ice axe arrest
  • the use of a rope for ascent, descent including snow anchors
  • hazard awareness including snow conditions and avalanche awareness
  • basic navigation
  • winter survival techniques

We tackle longer more challenging and exposed routes, using a variety of rope work skills including placing leader protection and abseiling.

Experience / Fitness / Ability

This Winter Mountaineering course is suitable for clients with summer Hill Walking experience in the UK.

Course Location

The remote and high environment of the Cairngorms is ideal for this course but location will depend on conditions throughout the Highlands.

Winter Mountaineering Course

Cost: £180 for 1 person + £20 per extra person.

Ratio: 1:3 maximum.

Number of days: This can be 1 day or a week long course.

Included: All Guides fees.

Not included: Transport to and from the course, lunches, insurance, equipment hire.
