Aid Climbing and Big Wall Preparation

Course Summary

The aim of this Aid Climbing and Big Wall Preparation Course is to develop climbing techniques that will be useful if you are planning a trip to Yosemite or any of the big wall venues in America, or if you find yourself needing some extra techniques to complete your route in the Alps.

Course Content

Aid climbing is about being efficient and tidy - it is all too easy to get in a mess and use far more energy than needed so some time will be spent on going over basic rope work and belay systems.

  • Clean Aid - using natural protection as aid.
  • Hauling systems.
  • Jumaring and cleaning routes.
  • Overnight bivi on a route!

Experience / Fitness / Ability

This is for people who have previous climbing experience, who can tie on and belay competently and who have done some lead climbing.

Course Location

The Aid Climbing and Big Wall Preparation course is based here in North Wales in Snowdonia which provides some suitable locations, however, we are also happy to run this course in the Peak District where there are some excellent venues to do so - this would however incur some additional cost - please contact for details.
