Course Summary

Being able to navigate competently in the hills and mountains is one of the cornerstones of safe travel. The mountains of Snowdonia in North Wales are a fantastic resource for learning and improving your navigating skills with stunning scenery and a widely varied terrain.

Course Content

I provide two courses in navigational skills - each is two days in length:

Introduction to Navigation Course

  • Map scales and symbols
  • Grid references
  • Taking and walking on bearings
  • Poor visibility or night navigation

This level provides useful skills for winter mountaineering and climbing.

Advanced Micro Navigation Course

For those with some previous experience and knowledge.

  • Using pacing and timing
  • Handrails
  • Aiming off
  • Slope aspect
  • Relocating
  • Poor visibility or night navigation

Experience / Fitness / Ability

No previous experience of navigating is required but Hill walking experience would be useful.

Course Location

The Navigation course is based in Snowdonia where the terrain is perfect for all levels of navigation.

Navigation Course

Cost: £180 per day.

Ratio: 1:6 maximum.

Number of days: this is a 1 or two day course.

Included: All Guides fees.

Not included: Transport to and from the course venue, lunches, insurance, equipment hire.
