Matterhorn ascent.

Course Summary

The Matterhorn is one of the most impressive and well known mountains in the Alps. Instantly recognisable, it dominates Zermatt and when seen from the river the Hornli Ridge, steeped in alpine mountaineering history, looks highly improbable.

Course Content

The initial 3 days will be spent training & acclimatising and often includes guided ascents of peaks such as Pollux and the traverse of the Breithorn both of which are over 4,000m and involve climbing in mountain boots. The final 3 days are reserved for a guided ascent of the Matterhorn, weather and conditions permitting.

Experience / Fitness / Ability

Ideally you would have scrambling or easy rock climbing experience,  as an ascent of the Matterhorn is a long day involving scrambling all the way up and down, however the first part of the week does allow for some training.

Course Location

The Matterhorn course is usually based in Zermatt but the initial 3 days can also be based in  Saas Grund where there are some great peaks such as Weissmies, Lagginhorn etc.
